Educational Curriculum

  • September 8-10, 2009: Fellows will attend 3 days of CSU’s IRM introductory course, AGRI 630: Integrated Decision Making and Management Skills. There will be reception to kick-off the program, and during the evenings successful ranchers from across Colorado will speak to the Fellows about their management practices.
  • May 2011: Fellows will attend 3 days of CSU’s IRM concluding course, AGRI 640: The Integrated Resource Management Plan. There will be a graduation ceremony and closing reception, and Fellows will present their capstone projects in a seminar setting.
  • Between August 2009 and May 2011: Each Fellow will be required to complete additional IRM courses best fitted to their needs at some point during the Program. The Class may be taken on-line or at CSU, and may be taken for graduate credit or simply continuing education.

Modules

The final schedule and nature of workshops will be developed according to the Fellows’ needs and opportunities that arise throughout the Program.

  • October 2-4, 2009: Fellows will go on a 3-day field trip to several private and TNC owned or leased ranches in Eastern Colorado, accompanied by TNC staff and land managers, who will focus on teaching the Fellows about the intersection of ranching and conservation. 
  • January 2010: Fellows will spend two days in Denver, where they will meet with legislators and lobbyists and participate in CCA’s legislative day. They will also attend a workshop where the very best agency representatives from around the state will provide Fellows with information about resources and equip them with the know-how to successfully work with agencies. 
  • May 2010: Out of State Field Trip through CSU’s IRM program. 
  • June 2010: Fellows will attend the CCA annual convention and give presentations of interest to the CCA membership.   
  • TBA: Fellows will participate in 2-day beef production module 
  • TBA: Fellows will attend a 2-day business module where they will hear from successful businessmen, bankers, and financial planners and will also participate in a risk-management workshop through CSU.
