Individuals Honored at Mid-Winter Conference
The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) and the Colorado CattleWomen (CCW) recognized individuals for their work with Colorado’s beef industry at the Colorado Cattlemen's Association and Colorado CattleWomen’s Mid-Winter Conference held recently in Colorado Springs.
The 2009 Brand Inspector of the Year was awarded to Mr. Jim Crowder of La Junta, Colo. Crowder’s nominations commended him for the thorough job he did inspecting cattle at a sale barn, packing house, several small feedlots, as well as his regular county inspections. “Jim is a true believer of brand inspection and has enjoyed being a part of Colorado’s ranching industry.”
Mr. Clayton Wilson of La Plata County was awarded the 2009 Law Officer of the Year. Wilson was commended for always being accessible to the rural Southwestern community, providing ranchers with advice to solve their predator problems. It was stated in Wilson’s nomination that “Clayton has saved us thousands of dollars by helping to protect our livestock.”
Nominations for these awards are collected annually and voted on by the CCA Brand and Theft committee.
The CattleWomen honored Adrian Walch as the Rookie of the Year. Walch is from the Plateau Valley CattleWomen in the Collbran area and has spent numerous hours promoting beef throughout the state. Not only has she successfully represented CattleWomen, but also the agriculture industry in her community.
The CattleWoman of the Year was presented to Sandra Tanner of Yoder, Colo. Tanner has dedicated her life to the cattle industry and has been a huge promoter of beef over the years. She was described as being the individual who always stepped forward when there was work to be done, or to support others if they needed a helping hand.
Being honored with the Colorado CattleWomen Honorary Life Member award was CCW President Sheron Berry. Berry had dedicated numerous years to the Colorado CattleWomen’s Association and has also represented them well as president on three separate terms. Berry’s commitment to the beef industry and CattleWomen across the street is well commended.
