Gilpin-Jefferson Livestock Association

Serving and representing livestock producers in Gilpin, Jefferson, Clear Creek, Boulder, Broomfield, and Denver Counties.

Date Founded: first met in Blackhawk in 1919, then formally established in 1920.

Being among the older county livestock organizations, GJLA has seen a lot of changes over the past 86 years, much of it because of our location along the front range and close proximity to Denver, our state capital. Producers within our association run operations ranging from dry land and irrigated farms to mountain ranches operating in or near the Roosevelt, Arapahoe, and Pike National Forests. Most of the issues and challenges livestock producers in our five county region face include population growth, land development, water use, and property rights including fence laws, trespassing, urban expansion, and takings. GJLA takes great pride in having a rich history in helping provide support, leadership, and home counties to the nation's oldest state cattlemen's organization, the Colorado Cattlemen's Association. GJLA has also served as home counties to the headquarters of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.

If you are interested in joining GJLA or attending any of our meetings and activities, please feel free to join us for breakfast each month, or contact any of our officers.
