Governor Interacts With CattlemenLAS ANIMAS - Nearly 50 cattlemen from southeast Colorado met with Governor John Hickenlooper on Wednesday afternoon, March 2, at the Bent County Extension Office. Hickenlooper held a private agriculture-issues meeting with Bent-Prowers Cattle and Horse Growers Association members while he was in the area. The 300-member association, which serves Baca, Bent, Crowley, Otero, Kiowa and Prowers counties, had representatives from throughout its region despite only having short notice.
The ranchers and ag-business leaders had the governor's ear for a full hour. The informal session included discussion on Pinon Canyon, water, beef labeling, cutting unnecessary red tape and fees, and the impact of school cuts and the proposed Ft. Lyon closure on the ag community. Hickenlooper stressed grass-roots suggestions from the standing-room only crowd and thanked the cattlemen for their input. |
